Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Environmental Service Technician to join our exceptional team at NC State’s Facilities Division. In this vital role, you will help maintain over 10 million square feet of campus space, ensuring a safe and inviting atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors. With the support of a dynamic team of over 320 professionals, you’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills and take pride in your work while contributing to our vibrant campus community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and sanitize designated areas using standard cleaning assignments to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
  • Report any discrepancies, damages, or maintenance needs within buildings and promptly respond to emergencies and inclement weather.
  • Operate housekeeping equipment such as vacuums, mops, and scrubbers to complete tasks like dusting, disinfecting, and replenishing supplies.
  • Periodically strip and refinish floors, shampoo and extract carpets, and perform pressure washing of entrances, exterior walls, and windows.
  • Remove and manage recycling from centralized indoor recycling sites.
  • Assist with window washing and other seasonal cleaning tasks as needed.
Other Responsibilities
  • Perform snow and ice removal within a team environment during inclement weather, in addition to coordinating with coworkers during group response to emergencies.
  • Perform team cleaning tasks and projects during breaks, and when space is accessible.
  • May be required to fill in for absenteeism outside of the assigned area.
Qualifications

Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Experience performing housekeeping duties.
  • Experience performing housekeeping duties in a university or commercial environment.
  • The position requires the ability to frequently lift 30 lbs. and occasionally up to 60 lbs. (with or without reasonable accommodation), grasp, push, and pull cleaning equipment, reach above shoulders, bend, squat, climb, balance, communicate effectively with supervisors and the public, and follow instructions and communications regarding assignments.
