Athletic Field Maintenance Worker

The City of Raleigh is hiring an Athletic Field Maintenance Worker to support the upkeep and preparation of athletic fields across the city. This hands-on role involves field grooming, painting, landscaping, and facility setup for games, practices, and tournaments. You’re a team player who takes pride in your work and enjoys being active. You’re comfortable operating landscaping equipment, following safety protocols, and working in all weather conditions. You’re also customer-focused, reliable, and able to follow directions while contributing to a positive team environment. Basic computer skills and the ability to work independently are a plus.

Our Athletic Field Maintenance team plays a vital role in ensuring our sports facilities are safe, clean, and game-ready.

• Prepare athletic fields for games and practices by grooming, marking, and painting
• Perform landscaping tasks such as mowing, edging, blowing, and sod replacement
• Maintain and clean facilities, including fencing repairs and litter removal
• Track maintenance records and perform preventative equipment care
• Support cleanup and repair efforts during inclement weather
• Operate a variety of grounds maintenance equipment safely and efficiently

High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalency;
Less than 1 year experience in groundskeeping, maintenance or related work OR Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted

• Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

• Athletic fields and equipment used to maintain (Sand Pro, line markers, paint machines, etc.)
• Basic mathematical concepts, filing and record keep principles applicable to federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations
• Occupational hazards and applicable standard safety principles, methods and practices

• Following directions and meeting standards while providing attention to detail in assignments and operating assigned tools and equipment
• Providing customer service

• Perform manual labor necessary to maintain athletic fields
