Job Description
The Community Center Assistant Director at Green Road Community Center assists with planning, organizing, and directing the operations, programs, and activities at Green Road Park directly or with part‑time employees. Central duties include dynamically engaging the community and conducting outreach to underserved populations to develop, implement, and market programs for diverse ages and populations. Additionally, this role supervises part‑time staff, a custodial position, and volunteers to ensure effective delivery of services.

Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department’s mission is to connect and enrich our community through exceptional experiences. Green Road is located in northeast Raleigh and shares a parking lot with the Green Road Library. The center houses two gymnasiums, a fitness room, two meeting rooms, and a large multipurpose room with a variety of outdoor amenities for self‑directed recreation. This site also manages Brentwood Park and Spring Forest Road Park and manages all facility rentals.
Staff direct a variety of active, recreation, and educational programs and special events including elementary aged summer camps as well as youth and teen after‑school programs.
The center is open seven days a week. Flexibility is required to be available for staff meetings, facility events, and providing coverage to part‑time staff.

Duties and Responsibilities- Program, Event, Rental and League Coordination:
Assist in planning, organizing, and managing staff and/or leading programs, events, camps and athletic leagues tailored to diverse age groups and interests, promoting community engagement and an inclusive, active environment - Staff and Volunteer Leadership:
Assist in recruiting and managing a team comprising of part‑time staff, custodial staff, and volunteers, ensuring effective collaboration and performance - Community Service:
Assist in delivering excellent customer service to patrons and the community, serving as a representative of the department at public meetings and assisting with resolving patron concerns, including complaints, refund requests, transfers, and other special situations - Operational Management:
Assist in coordinating daily operations and scheduling, facility maintenance, assisting with set‑up and break‑down of spaces, rentals and resource allocation, to ensure smooth and efficient functioning - Marketing & Outreach:
Assist in developing and executing strategies to promote programs and events, utilizing various channels to reach a broad audience - Budget Oversight:
Assist in managing the center’s budget, including tracking and reporting, and identifying opportunities for cost-effective solutions - Operating City Vehicle:
Incumbent will be required to travel to staff meetings, trainings and other facilities to assist with events
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Leisure Activities, Physical Education, Sports/Athletics, Therapeutic Recreation or related field; 1 to 3 years’ experience in recreation program/activity and/or special event implementation, marketing, coordinating, or related work, or any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.
- Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire
