Software Development Manager, Developer Experience

We are seeking a Software Development Manager to lead a specialized team focused on lab management systems and emulations – the backbone for AWS commodity switches’ testing. This role is part of AWS Infrastructure Services, responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of global AWS infrastructure.

• Lead a team of software development engineers, handling hiring, promotion, performance assessments, and career development.
• Collaborate closely with engineers to design and build large‑scale, highly distributed systems that solve complex problems.
• Review design specifications and code, enforcing high standards of system design and code quality.
• Partner with leadership and customers to prioritize new features, balancing tactical and strategic initiatives.
• Translate business requirements into engineering requirements, scope resources, and manage multiple projects and dependencies to deliver on schedule.
• Lead sprint planning, stand‑ups, and retrospectives to assign work, monitor progress, and gather feedback.
• Drive operational excellence by analysing ticket root causes, defects, and technical debt, and creating projects to reduce short‑term and long‑term operational load.
• Shape the definition, vision, design, roadmap, development, and operationalisation of customer‑facing services.
• Work with executive leadership, senior management, and technical leaders to define product directions and deliver to customers.
• Foster a culture of safety, security, and inclusion while ensuring scalability and reliability of distributed systems.

• 7+ years of engineering experience.
• 3+ years of engineering team management experience.
• Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns across the full software/hardware/network development life‑cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
• Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

• 8+ years leading the definition and development of multi‑tier web services.
• Experience communicating with users, technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• Experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching, and managing teams of software engineers to improve skills and effectiveness.

The base salary range for this position is $ – $ USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
