The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction (NCDAC), Administration Division, Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM), is seeking an energetic and collaborative SE&R BAS Systems Engineer (Engineer II) to join the Sustainability, Efficiency, and Resilience (SE&R) team. This role supports the implementation and optimization of Building Automation Systems (BAS) across all NCDAC institutions and facilities to ensure sustainable, energy-efficient operations that reduce environmental impacts, lower costs, and improve overall facility performance.
The BAS Systems Engineer will contribute to system design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and lifecycle management; develop and refine best-practice BAS standards and graphical interfaces; support dashboard development for system monitoring and troubleshooting; and aid in training initiatives that build internal BAS design, installation, and management capability.
- Assist in developing and implementing BAS systems in NCDAC facilities
- Support creation of best-practice BAS designs, graphical interfaces, and design guidelines
- Install or upgrade facilities to align with current BAS standards
- Commission, maintain, and optimize BAS throughout their lifecycle
- Reprogram or upgrade BAS graphical interfaces as needed
- Assist in developing and maintaining a BAS dashboard to identify system issues efficiently
- Support development and delivery of BAS training to build internal team capabilities
Salary Range: $63,927-$111,871 NC18
Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/ Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred :
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of engineering concepts, practices, and theories used in Building Automation Systems (BAS) and their interaction with Mechanical (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Systems - HVAC) and Electrical systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge in the deployment and/or use of electronic BAS systems down to a programming level for at least one BAS system.
- Demonstrated Experience with the Niagara Framework.
- Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Office Products, including Word, Excel, and/or Outlook.

Work Location and ScheduleThis is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday
- Friday from (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM) and may require some weekend work to meet the demands of the organization. This position is NOT expected to be Hybrid or Remote work eligible.
