Job posted Friday, February 20, 2026 at 5:00 AM. The North Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW-NC) with an office in downtown Raleigh and with statewide membership of approximately 5,000, is seeking a Membership and Communication Coordinator with demonstrated program management and communication skills. NASW is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world.
NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies.
I. MAJOR FUNCTIONS:
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Membership and Communication Coordinator is responsible for activities related to the acquisition and retention of members by developing and marketing benefits, leading program development, and managing membership information. This position also oversees NASW-NC’s communication efforts. Though the majority of this role will support the membership of NASW-NC, this position will also be responsible for providing some support and resources to the membership of NASW South Carolina.
II. BASIC
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serve as the first point of contact for members, providing support and resources as applicable.
- Develop and implement innovative member engagement strategies that improve member retention.
- Develop, implement, and support initiatives to increase membership from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as from different stages of social work careers.
- Manage all association communication including email management system, maintaining and updating NASW-NC website, and creating and editing chapter newsletters.
- Take a lead role in maintaining and utilizing social media and networking for association marketing and communication.
- Create, maintain, and optimize creative membership benefits and programs. This includes maintenance of existing content, as well as recommending and implementing actions for new programs, tools, technology, and processes to support membership.
- Create and maintain relationships with key external partners and stakeholders, include Schools of Social Work.
- Serve as the staff liaison to various volunteer committees.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills:
- Commitment to the social work profession and upholding the NASW Code of Ethics.
- Must have demonstrated experience managing people, projects, and budgets; planning for member/customer service.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills required. Must be able to engage with members to understand their concerns and identify how NASW-NC may be able to assist.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Creative approaches to problem solving are required.
- Ability to simultaneously coordinate a variety of projects, shift priorities, and work within budget and deadlines is required.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and be dependable.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a small team towards shared goals.
- Ability to develop ideas into executable plans.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and Saturdays.
- Some travel within North Carolina.
Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree. BSW or MSW strongly preferred.
- Strong computer and technology skills including knowledge of:
- Microsoft Office suite
- Canva
- Constant Contact (or a similar communication platform)
- Zoom
- Database management
- Social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Linked In
- Website updates/maintenance
Experience
:
Minimum of 3 years of related or relevant work experience.
