Youth Minister — 10 Hours per Week
Open Table United Methodist Church
Part-Time | 10 hours per week
Open Table UMC is a reconciling church located near downtown Raleigh! We are an inclusive and justice-centered congregation that believes there is room at God’s table. We seek to be a community where people of all ages can grow in faith, ask honest questions, and build meaningful relationships.
About the PositionOpen Table UMC is seeking a part-time Youth Minister to help us nurture and grow our ministry with middle- and high-school students. The youth group has gone through several iterations over the years and is currently in need of being revamped!
This is a 10-hour-per-week position for someone who loves youth, enjoys building authentic relationships, and believes the church should be a place where teenagers can be their whole selves. Open Table currently participates in a joint youth group with two other reconciling churches in Raleigh. We also provide events and growth opportunities for youth in-house.
ResponsibilitiesThe Youth Minister will:
- Build genuine, trusting relationships with youth and their families
- Coordinate youth gatherings, activities, and opportunities for fellowship
- Encourage youth participation in worship and the broader life of Open Table
- Connect youth with opportunities for service and community engagement
- Work collaboratively with the pastor, other churches in our reconciling ministry, church staff, parents, and volunteers
- Recruit, encourage, and equip adult volunteers who work with youth.
- Communicate regularly with youth and families about upcoming activities and opportunities
- Maintain a safe, welcoming, and affirming environment for every young person
- Engage in conference level youth ministries as able
We are looking for someone who:
- Loves teenagers and genuinely enjoys spending time with them.
- Is comfortable talking about faith without having to have every answer.
- Understands youth ministry as relationship-building rather than simply programming.
- Values inclusion, diversity, justice, and radical hospitality.
- Is friendly towards neurodivergent youth
- Can create an environment where young people feel seen, heard, respected, and valued.
- Is dependable, organized, creative, and a good communicator.
- Works well with parents, volunteers, clergy, and other church leaders.
- Can work independently while also being part of a collaborative ministry team.
- Is willing to meet young people where they are and help them discover where God may be calling them.
Formal theological education or professional youth-ministry experience is helpful but not necessarily required. We are especially interested in candidates who demonstrate a genuine ability to connect with young people and share Open Table’s commitment to an inclusive and justice-oriented Christian faith.
Hours10 hours per week, with a schedule that will include regular youth gatherings, planning and preparation, communication with families, and occasional special events or activities.
Because youth ministry often happens outside traditional office hours, some evening and weekend availability will be necessary.
CompensationCurrently we are offering this position with a yearly salary of $11,250. There is a potential for 5 additional hours a week working within our kid’s programming and a yearly salary of $16,875.
