Summary:Haven House Services is seeking a relationship-driven Major Gifts Officer to build and lead the organization’s major gifts program. Working closely with the Chief Development Officer, Director of Annual Giving, agency leadership, and volunteer leaders, the Major Gifts Officer will develop meaningful donor relationships that deepen engagement and inspire transformational philanthropy.
The Major Gifts Officer serves as Haven House’s lead strategist and relationship manager for major individual giving. This position is responsible for donor qualification, portfolio management, moves management, major gift cultivation and solicitation, and planned giving integration. The successful candidate will create systems and strategies that move donors through the philanthropic pipeline while aligning donor passions with Haven House’s mission and strategic priorities.
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position with the possibility of a hybrid working schedule (see working environment).
Specific position duties and responsibilities:Portfolio Strategy and Management
- Build, qualify, and manage a portfolio of approximately 125-150 current and prospective donors with the potential to make major gift commitments of $5,000 and above.
- Develop and maintain a donor qualification framework utilizing giving history, engagement indicators, prospect research, wealth screening data, and relationship mapping.
- Create prospect rating and portfolio assignment systems that align donors with the most appropriate relationship manager across staff, leadership, and volunteer leaders.
- Lead ongoing portfolio review processes to ensure prospects are actively moving through the donor pipeline.
- Partner with the Director of Annual Giving to identify and transition qualified donors from annual giving, peer-to-peer fundraising campaigns, volunteer programs, and donor societies into major gift portfolios.
Relationship Building and Moves Management
- Develop individualized donor engagement strategies that align donor interests with Haven House’s mission, programs, and funding priorities.
- Lead donor discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and renewal strategies for assigned prospects.
- Ensure all assigned prospects have documented next steps, relationship strategies, and philanthropic objectives.
- Conduct meaningful donor visits, tours, stewardship meetings, and philanthropic conversations that strengthen long-term donor relationships.
- Coordinate donor engagement efforts involving the CEO, COO, Chief Development Officer, board members, and volunteer leaders.
- Utilize a moves management process to systematically advance donor relationships and increase philanthropic investment.
Major Gift and Planned Giving Development
- Develop and implement strategies to secure annual, major, and leadership gifts from individual donors.
- Lead the growth of Haven House’s major gift society and support the continued expansion of the Bright Futures Society.
- Integrate planned giving conversations into major donor stewardship and long-term relationship strategies.
- Identify, cultivate, and steward planned giving prospects in partnership with development and agency leadership.
- Help build a pipeline of donors capable of supporting future strategic funding initiatives and long-term sustainability efforts.
Leadership and Organizational Partnership
