Registered Nurse (Experienced) – Duke Raleigh Hospital Campus – Operating Room Scheduler Duke University Health System seeks to hire a Registered Nurse - Operating Room Scheduler who will embrace our mission of Transforming Lives Transforming Care.

Work Hours and Shift: 4-10hr Days, 6:30am-5pm

Job Summary:

The OR Scheduler, Nursing works closely with the Perioperative team including OR Schedulers, Perioperative Nurse Manager, Perioperative Director, Anesthesia Leadership, and other Support Services to coordinate daily OR scheduling. The position assists with managing and building the OR schedule, collaborating with surgeon offices, and Nurse Managers to optimize the OR schedule for efficient and safe patient flow.

The duties of the role include:
Completion of the first step of Universal Protocol, Scheduling utilizing chart reviews to verify critical elements including but not limited to: provider, location, procedure date, patient class, Case Consent Wording, ICD & CPT, laterality, positioning, anesthesia type, case classification, diagnosis codes, pre-op visit completion, surgeon privileging confirmation, leading scheduling meetings, orientation of new hires, running reports as necessary, using critical thinking and nursing knowledge to ensure surgical patient safety.

As a Clinical Nurse with Duke University Health System, you will make providing service your priority while caring for the whole person in a patient-centered atmosphere. The Clinical Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities. Utilizing the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department. Plan and provide advanced and/or specialized nursing care for patients in guided by DUHS Professional Practice model participate in the clinical ladder program, educational activities, departmental committees, research projects or other health related projects as assigned.

Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Adheres to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

Work Performed Completion of the first step of Universal Protocol. Scheduling OR events and consistently analyzing schedule to maximize efficiency and productivity. Utilizing chart reviews to verify critical elements including but not limited to: provider, location, procedure date, patient class, Case Consent Wording, ICD & CPT, laterality, positioning, anesthesia type, case classification, diagnosis codes, pre-op visit completion, and surgeon privileging confirmation.

Leading scheduling meetings to collaborate with key stakeholders and team members and influence operational excellence. Orientation of new hires to the department. Running reports and completing data analysis frequently to maximize schedule execution. Using strong critical thinking, communication and nursing knowledge to ensure surgical patient safety. Review and complete all required elements of an OR case request in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures.
