The primary purpose of this position is to coordinate the Tuberculosis activities for the control of the spread of TB in Halifax County.
Responsibilities include:
projecting program needs, compiling information upon which the budget recommendations for the TB program is based and remaining within the budget allocated to the program. Other duties include maintaining thorough knowledge of prevention, mode of transmission, screening techniques, new drug therapy, side effects of drugs, case management of TB patients and TB contacts. Also, will include: review notification from doctor and referrals on all patients;
visit hospitalized patient and review chart when possible; counsel and provide basic health teaching to patient in prevention and detection of TB. This position will follow up on Communicable Diseases, management of Respiratory Protection Plan and Fit Testing of all employees, and responsible for Pharmacy Management and inventory of TB medications. This position will work clinic and community shelters as needed and other duties as required.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from a four‑year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and two years of Public Health Nursing experience; OR Master’s in Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience; OR graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of professional nursing experience including two years of Public Health nursing experience.
A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina and an appropriate driver’s license valid in the State of N.C. is also required. All health department employees (with the exception of individuals with an accommodation or medical exemption) are required to get an annual flu shot vaccine as part of condition of employment.
