Summary of Performance Expectations

Administers intravenous, general and regional anesthetics to render patients insensible to pain during surgical procedures, deliveries, or other medical and dental procedures. Also provides comprehensive patient care management throughout the peri‑anesthetic period.

Required:

• Current NC RN license or nursing compact state license.
• Graduate of accredited nurse anesthesia program.
• Current NC CRNA verification.
• BCLS certification. If not from the American Heart Association (AHA), an AHA certification is required within three months of employment.

Additional requirements (effective May 4, 2015):

• BSN degree or enrollment in an approved accredited BSN program within two years of employment date for newly employed RNs and for RNs promoted to RN positions.
• BSN degree must be obtained within five years of employment date.
• Incumbents in positions at the effective date are exempt from enrollment and completion requirements to maintain their current position or apply for other RN positions.
• Catawba Valley Medical Group RN positions are exempt from this BSN requirement.

Preferred:

• Master’s degree or higher.
• PALS certification.

Required:

none. Training and on‑the‑job experience will develop proficiency in the basic aspects of the job within three months of employment date.

Preferred:
Two or more years of experience working in a hospital setting.
