7 East is a 28-bed acute care general surgery and bariatric post‑op unit that is a bariatric accredited center for elective weight‑loss surgery. The nursing team delivers specialized post‑operative care using the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery pathway, educating and treating patients to achieve excellent outcomes during a single overnight stay.
Responsibilities- Education – identify and meet learning needs of self; attend education programs; use patient education materials; assess readiness of patients, families, and caregivers.
- Evaluation of Care – identify expected patient outcomes; seek guidance for care plan revisions; discuss patient care with interdisciplinary team; communicate relevant information to promote continuity of care.
- Implementation – demonstrate competence in caring for patients with complex problems; perform bedside point‑of‑care testing; utilize organization policies and procedures; prioritize care; consult timely on complex issues, teaching needs, or discharge planning.
- Leadership – develop goals for professional growth; achieve or renegotiate goals; collaborate on unit goals and performance improvement; promote cost‑effective care; give feedback; maintain a safe, clean, secure environment.
- Patient Assessment – recognize data from complex situations; synthesize assessment into meaningful whole; anticipate discharge needs; build relationships that empower families to advocate for the patient.
- Planning – collaborate with patient/family to prepare or update the plan of care; use multidisciplinary resources; communicate planning; address cultural and ethnic issues; prioritize tasks for complex problems.
- Research – read relevant journals; bring ideas and questions for staff discussion.
- Education Requirements – graduate from a professional nursing school. If hired after January 6 2014, must be enrolled within four years of employment and obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing within seven years.
- Licensure/Certification Requirements – licensed RN in North Carolina;
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification. - Professional Experience Requirements – one year of nursing experience.
