The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It safeguards and preserves lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff, as well as probation/parole officers who supervise sentenced people in the community.
Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations, and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission.
This position is the highest level of nursing supervision and is the Health Authority responsible for the daily management/operation of the facility's nursing operation. The position is located at Central Prison Healthcare Complex in Raleigh, which houses approximately 1318 close‑custody male offenders.
Nurse Supervisor is responsible for ensuring professional nursing care and treatment is afforded to patients within medical policies, protocols, and consistent with Board of Nursing requirements.
- Direct supervision of all nursing staff, including staff schedules, assignments, orientation, performance improvement evaluations, and clinical competency evaluations.
- Supervises, conducts needs assessments, develops, implements, and evaluates treatment plans, and provides patient care and education to offenders.
- Ensures all policies and procedures are followed and submits short‑ and long‑term goals to Leadership for review and approval.
- Performs administrative duties such as planning, organizing, and managing daily operations, quality assurance, Human Resource management functions, and staff development.
- Develops and maintains effective communication and work relationships with Physicians, upper management healthcare personnel, patients, families, agencies, and others.
- Identifies and addresses quality monitoring and performance improvement issues for the facility.
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina and two years of nursing experience.
