Department Summary:

The Medical/Surgical Stepdown Unit at Duke Raleigh Campus is seeking passionate, driven nurses to join our high-performing 34-bed team. This is an exciting opportunity to care for a diverse and complex patient population, including individuals with sepsis, pneumonia, diabetes, sickle cell disease, and gastrointestinal conditions, as well as patients requiring step-down level care such as cardiac drips, post–cath lab recovery, and peritoneal dialysis.

Our unit offers a unique, well-rounded clinical environment that also includes providing nurses with the chance to expand their skills and make a meaningful impact across multiple areas of care. With a supportive nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–5 based on acuity, our team is empowered to deliver safe, high-quality, and individualized care. You'll work alongside a collaborative, engaged team that is deeply committed to professional growth, teamwork, and delivering exceptional outcomes for every patient, every time.

General Description:

Independently plan and provide professional nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families in accordance with the scope of the RN as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Nurses hired into this limited benefited classification will commit to work a minimum number of hours in a designated inpatient nursing department.

Compensation is a flat rate that is based on years of experience.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level: Plan, provide, supervise and document professional nursing care utilizing the nursing process for patients in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures. Use professional nursing judgment to individualize the plan of care based on assessment of the patient's baseline needs and response to care. Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.

Assist other nursing personnel in the delivery of nursing care and act as team leader or charge nurse for a group of patients or an entire unit as assigned. Monitor and initiate corrective action to maintain the environment of care including equipment and material resources. Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
