Our 12-month Nurse Residency Program supports the transition from student to professional nurse through:

• Specialty-specific clinical orientation and training

• Dedicated preceptors, educators, nurse leaders, and peer support

• Ongoing professional development and continuing education

• Evidence-based practice project

• Regular progress check-ins and development milestones

• Focus on clinical judgment, critical thinking, leadership, and quality patient care

Start dates are based on graduation and NCLEX completion.

The Cardiovascular Surgery Stepdown Unit is located within the Heart and Vascular Hospital and provides specialized care for patients recovering from cardiac, vascular, and structural heart procedures.

Patients require a higher level of monitoring and nursing intervention than a traditional medical-surgical unit, making 5HV an excellent environment for new nurses interested in cardiovascular and progressive care nursing.

As a member of the 5HV team, you will care for patients who may require:

• Advanced cardiac monitoring

• Titration of select medications

• Enhanced respiratory support and oxygen therapies

• Frequent assessment and intervention to identify early signs of clinical deterioration

The unit’s design mirrors an ICU environment and features advanced bedside monitoring technology, providing opportunities to develop strong assessment, clinical reasoning, and critical-thinking skills.

You’ll work closely with advanced practice providers, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and an experienced leadership team committed to supporting your professional growth and career development.
