New Graduate Nurse – Cardiac Procedural Intermediate Care Unit (8HV)UNC Health Rex | Cardiac Procedural Intermediate Care Unit (8HV)
Launch your nursing career in a specialized cardiovascular progressive care environment at UNC Health Rex. This position is open to new graduate nurses and RNs with less than 12 months of experience.
The 12-month UNC Health Rex Nurse Residency Program provides specialty-specific orientation, mentorship, professional development, continuing education, and evidence-based practice to support your transition to professional nursing practice.
Start dates are based on graduation and NCLEX completion dates.
About 8HVThe 24-bed Cardiac Procedural Intermediate Care Unit provides care for adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiovascular conditions and medical co-morbidities.
Patients include those recovering from cardiac and vascular interventions, as well as those with myocardial infarction, heart failure, dysrhythmias, and other complex cardiac conditions.
Unit Highlights- Procedural recovery and acute cardiac medicine
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Continuous telemetry monitoring through the Telemetry Command Center
- Bedside cardiac monitors, computers, and barcode scanners
- Typical 4:1 nurse-to-patient ratio
- Strong interdisciplinary collaboration
Nurses work alongside cardiologists, cardiovascular surgeons, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, rehabilitation specialists, telemetry technicians, and nursing leadership. This supportive environment helps new nurses develop cardiovascular assessment, critical-thinking, clinical decision-making, and patient-care skills.

Responsibilities- Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs of self. Attends education programs based on identified learning needs. With assistance, uses patient education materials relevant to patient population. Assesses readiness to learn of the patient/family/caregivers. Assesses developmental level of patient and factors affecting ability to learn.
- Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance as needed in revision of plan of care. Participates in discussion with members of the interdisciplinary team in evaluation of patient care. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care.
- Demonstrates competence in care of patients with complex problems, including population-appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational and safety aspects of care.
