UNC Health Rex | Cardiac Medicine Intermediate Care Unit (7HV)

Launch your nursing career in a specialized cardiovascular progressive care environment at UNC Health Rex. This position is open to new graduate nurses and RNs with less than 12 months of experience.

The 12-month UNC Health Rex Nurse Residency Program supports your transition to professional practice through specialty-specific orientation, mentorship, professional development, continuing education, and evidence-based practice.

Start dates are based on graduation and NCLEX completion dates.

Nurse Residency Program

Residents receive:

  • Specialty-specific clinical orientation and training
  • Support from preceptors, educators, nurse leaders, and peers
  • Professional development and continuing education
  • Evidence-based practice project
  • Regular progress check-ins and development milestones

The program focuses on building clinical competence, confidence, critical thinking, clinical decision-making, leadership, and quality patient care.

About 7HV Cardiac Medicine Intermediate Care Unit

The 24-bed Cardiac Medicine Intermediate Care Unit (7HV) provides intermediate-level care for adult and geriatric patients with cardiac conditions and complex medical co-morbidities.

Patients include those with heart failure, dysrhythmias, acute myocardial infarction, complex cardiac conditions, and those recovering from cardiac and vascular procedures.

Unit Highlights
  • Specialized cardiovascular and progressive care
  • Adult and geriatric patient population
  • Pre- and post-cardiac and vascular procedure care
  • Continuous telemetry monitoring through the Telemetry Command Center
  • GE bedside cardiac monitoring in every room
  • In-room computers with immediate electronic medical record access
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration

The unit provides an excellent environment for new graduate nurses to develop assessment, critical-thinking, clinical decision-making, and cardiovascular nursing skills. Nurses collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, rehabilitation specialists, telemetry technicians, and nursing leadership.

Throughout residency, you'll receive support from experienced nurses, educators, and leaders dedicated to your professional growth.

Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing program
  • Current NC RN license or eligibility to obtain licensure before providing clinical care
  • BLS certification for Healthcare Providers

New graduate eligibility includes:

  • Nursing students in their final semester
  • Nursing graduates within 12 months of graduation
  • RNs with less than 6 months of RN experience
