Role OverviewThe Women's Health Staffing Response Team (SRT) Women's Health Float Pool supports staffing flexibility and continuity of care across UNC REX Raleigh and UNC REX Holly Springs. The RN provides competent, patient‑centered nursing care to newborns and postpartum mothers and families in a Level II Intermediate Care Nursery and Postpartum Unit.
Key strengths include clinical adaptability, strong assessment and critical‑thinking skills, effective communication, and a commitment to compassionate, family‑centered care during maternal and newborn recovery.
Ideal candidate has at least 2 years of recent Level II Nursery and Postpartum experience.
Responsibilities- Work across multiple units including Level II Intermediate Care Nursery and Postpartum Unit.
- Collaborate with diverse care teams across both facilities.
- Provide direct nursing care to newborns requiring intermediate care, including monitoring and management of mild respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, administration of IV fluids and antibiotics, and management of jaundice, feeding difficulties, mild infections, and temperature instability.
- Provide evidence‑based nursing care to postpartum mothers and newborns after vaginal and cesarean deliveries, routine couplet care, and care for antepartum and gynecologic patients as assigned.
- Perform comprehensive assessments, ongoing monitoring, documentation, and evaluation of patient responses to care.
- Educate and support families regarding infant care, feeding, safe sleep practices, maternal recovery, and discharge planning.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members—including physicians, neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, certified nurse midwives, OB/GYNs, NICU and nursery staff, lactation consultants, and support staff—to coordinate care and ensure safe transitions across units and facilities.
- Demonstrate flexibility and professionalism when transitioning between units and sites to meet staffing and patient care needs.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record per UNC Health standards and policies.
- UNC REX Raleigh – Level II Intermediate Care Nursery and Postpartum Unit.
- UNC REX Holly Springs – Level II Nursery and Postpartum Unit.
Daily assignments are based on the needs of both facilities.
Shift Requirements- Choose between Day Shift (7 a.m. – 7 p.m.) or Night Shift (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.).
- Level 2 Commitment:
Minimum of 12 hours per week (one 12‑hour shift). - Level 4 Commitment:
Minimum of 24 hours per week (two 12‑hour shifts), weekend availability, and mandatory work of 2 official and 1 unofficial holidays annually.
- Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
- One (1) year of relevant and current experience required.
- Clinical assessment and critical‑thinking skills.
- Advanced patient and family education skills.
- Effective communication, teamwork, and coordination across interdisciplinary teams.
- Documentation competency in electronic health records.
