Wildlife Conservation Technician I (Temporary)

Description of Work:
This temporary position is located in 1751 Varsity Drive – Wake County with the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. The role involves field data collection and management for landbird surveys, the NC Bird Atlas, and related monitoring projects under the Wildlife Action Plan. This is a temporary assignment with no leave or retirement benefits; employees working an average of 30+ hrs/week may be eligible for health insurance under the HDHP.
Responsibilities (Management Preferences):
- Support ongoing data collection during the 5th and final year of surveys.
- Continue landbird survey, research, and monitoring projects.
- Coordinate, outreach, and data management associated with the NC Bird Atlas.
Minimum
Education and Experience:
Associate Degree in wildlife or fisheries management or construction management from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in managing wildlife/fisheries resources or operating heavy equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license within 90 days of hire. Additional licenses (CDL, pesticide applicator, NC Burner Certificate) may be required.
Hourly Rate of Pay: $18.03 (based on education/experience)

Effective July 1, 2025, candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be considered eligible. Candidates must be fully qualified; OSHR supports the Governor's Job Ready initiative to expand temporary skill sets.
