We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Ecology Technician to support ongoing ecological monitoring projects in Ashe, Avery, and Watauga Counties. This is a hands-on field and lab support role ideal for individuals with an interest in biology, ecology, entomology, or environmental science

Requirements and Preferences

Work Schedule 7-8 hours per week Other Work/Responsibilities

* Drive to field sites across Ashe, Avery, and Watauga Counties (mileage reimbursed).

* Collect and label armored-scale infested foliage samples from designated locations.

* Perform microscopic insect counts using a provided microscope.

* Record data accurately and maintain sample integrity.

* Communicate findings and field conditions with project lead in a timely manner

Minimum Experience/Education

Department Required Skills

* Ability to work independently and follow detailed protocols.

* Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.

* Strong attention to detail and data recording accuracy.

* Must have reliable personal transportation and a valid driver's license.

* Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and handle plant/insect materials.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

Coursework or background in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field preferred but not required
