Description
This is a general summary of the responsibilities associated with the position of a Aquaculture Specialist, in support of the EPA-Operations and Maintenance of the ORD Vivarium and Veterinary Services Contract. This description is not all-inclusive of the duties required to successfully complete the job daily. It is intended to reflect Team MPF’s contractual obligations. Employees are expected to complete all assigned duties each day as directed by management.
Responsibilities of this position are that of a Aquaculture Specialist
. These responsibilities include all activities required for the proper care, handling and maintenance of on-site animals, equipment, and facilities.
Unless otherwise directed by a manager, all employees are expected to perform their duties as assigned, arrive to work at 7:00am and depart at 4:00pm. (Monday through Friday). Employees are required to work on the weekends and holidays as scheduled. The weekend/holiday hours are from 7:00am-11:00am.
Employees are expected to be familiar with the day-to-day activities, personnel and daily schedules within the facilities. Team MPF expects each of our employees to be forward thinking and to create and assist in quality performance and contract requirements.
The primary duties for a Aquaculture Specialist are listed below:
- Read, comprehend and follow all project SOP’s and Performance Standards.
- Perform daily animal health and water quality checks and report any abnormal animal or water quality conditions to the appropriate veterinary technician, supervisor, and/or veterinarian.
- Dispose of dead animals according to project SOP’s and policies.
- Ensure excellent animal care by providing cultured Artemia and other feed as directed by the Attending Veterinarian.
- Ability to read/understand and implement breeding schedules.
- Maintain daily animal census sheets, room equipment, water quality and other forms according to project SOP’s.
- Clean and sanitize animal facility, change filters and other related items in order to maintain water quality and fish health/welfare according to project SOP’s.
- Maintain and monitor water quality and support equipment.
- Provide appropriate tanks and environment for incoming juveniles/ new lines according to project SOP’s.
- Provide handling/restraint and manipulation of various animal species including fish.
- Identify and author needed technical procedures.
- Must be able to lift a maximum of 50 lbs; bend, stoop, climb and stand for a prolong period.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by management.
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Employees’ appointed to the position of Aquaculture Specialist must meet the following standards prior to appointment:
EducationA High School Diploma or equivalent. College degree is preferred
CertificationEmployees must be LAT certified and possess the appropriate training and experience.
ExperienceMust have the capability of performing the duties above without supervision.
