Job Description

The Environmental Monitoring Analyst performs routine environmental monitoring across manufacturing and laboratory areas to support contamination control and product quality. This role focuses on collecting and processing viable and non-viable samples from manufacturing and utility systems, documenting results in electronic systems, and following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and standard operating procedures. Environmental Monitoring Analyst

Responsibilities
  • Perform routine environmental monitoring sampling throughout the manufacturing facility, including controlled manufacturing spaces and laboratory areas.
  • Collect viable and non-viable samples from manufacturing and utility systems, including compressed gas systems and water systems such as WFI.
  • Incubate environmental monitoring plates, read and interpret results, and document findings accurately within electronic documentation systems.
  • Follow GMP procedures and site standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with contamination control and qualification activities.
  • Support monitoring activities for facility environments, compressed gas systems, water systems, and controlled manufacturing spaces to maintain a state of control.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation and records in a paperless environment, adhering to data integrity standards.
  • Participate in routine operational and compliance activities related to environmental monitoring and quality systems.
  • Apply aseptic techniques during sampling and handling of materials to minimize contamination risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams in manufacturing, quality, and laboratory operations while also working independently when required.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally about monitoring results, deviations, and observations to relevant stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail in sample collection, plate reading, data entry, and documentation review.
  • Adapt to changing schedules, priorities, and environments while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
  • Engage in ongoing training and mentorship activities to build expertise in environmental monitoring, microbiology, GMP operations, and quality systems.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Foundational knowledge of microbiology and laboratory practices.
  • Understanding of aseptic technique and contamination control principles.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for documenting results and collaborating with team members.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple monitoring activities and documentation requirements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also contributing effectively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail in sampling, plate reading, and electronic documentation.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills in environmental monitoring, GMP operations, and quality systems.
  • Agility in adapting to changing environments, schedules, and operational priorities.
  • Comfort using electronic documentation systems in a paperless environment.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in GMP manufacturing environments is preferred.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or biotechnology settings is preferred.
  • Experience in laboratory operations, including handling and processing samples, is preferred.
  • Experience in environmental monitoring activities is preferred.
  • Experience in microbiology, including plate incubation and reading, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with LIMS or other electronic documentation and data management systems is preferred.
  • Exposure to bioworks or similar technical training programs is beneficial.
  • Interest in long-term career growth into microbiology, quality, and laboratory-based roles within the life sciences industry.
Work Environment

This role operates in both manufacturing and laboratory environments that follow GMP and contamination control standards. The position requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods while performing sampling and monitoring activities throughout the facility. The analyst must be able to lift up to 35 pounds as part of routine duties, such as handling equipment and materials. Work hours are Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with a mandatory team meeting at 8:15 AM each day.
