Temporary Research Assistant

Responsibilities

• Operates and maintains GC‑MS, GC, anaerobic chambers, biosafety cabinets, flow cytometer, plate readers, spectrophotometers, and other laboratory equipment as needed.
• Performs cultivation of archaea/bacteria and develops customized biological and chemical assays.
• Performs technical laboratory procedures that include gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, flow cytometry, PCR, DNA/RNA and protein extraction, and gel electrophoresis.
• Maintains laboratory notebooks, records, and analyzes experimental data.
• Develops and validates new procedures or follows established procedures and records results.
• Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports and manuscripts.
• Assists in training users of shared laboratory equipment.
• Helps with laboratory management.

20-30 hours per week between Monday‑Friday.

• Relevant Master’s degree or Relevant Bachelor’s degree plus 3 or more years of relevant experience, or relevant independent experience and education.

• Experience working in a higher‑education research laboratory environment.
• 5 years of laboratory experience.

• Experience supporting microbial, molecular biology, or related biological research programs.
• Experience with laboratory organization, sample processing, data collection, and research support activities.
• Experience working in Plant and Microbial Biology or a comparable academic research environment.

• Valid driver’s license.

Hourly rate: $28.48.
