Job Overview
Research Technician – Meurs Lab. The Institute is part of the NC State College of Veterinary Medicine, located in Raleigh, NC. The position supports translational research in comparative genetics with a focus on feline and canine models. The role requires technical laboratory expertise and project management. This is a time‑limited appointment, expected 1–2 years. The salary range is $43,000–$49,000. Full‑time, Monday–Friday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
Responsibilities- Perform complex molecular and cell biology techniques: DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, real‑time PCR (qPCR), and protein analysis.
- Conduct laboratory procedures to test specific research hypotheses under the guidance of the Principal Investigator.
- Assist in developing and refining new experimental methodologies.
- Manage multiple concurrent research projects to meet deadlines and objectives.
- Analyze experimental data and collaborate with the team on project next steps.
- Maintain accurate records of all experimental protocols and results.
- Process diagnostic requests for the Cardiac Genetics Laboratory using PCR‑based analysis.
- Oversee rigorous quality‑control (QC) standards for diagnostic results.
- Manage laboratory operations including inventory procurement and stocking.
- Update and maintain safety protocols and quality‑assurance (QA) plans for compliance.
- Perform any other tasks and responsibilities as assigned according to evolving priorities.
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
- Technical proficiency: Foundational knowledge of molecular and cell biology; ability to operate laboratory equipment.
- Research autonomy & collaboration: Proven ability to manage primary studies independently and support collaborative projects.
- Data integrity: Exceptional record‑keeping and data‑management skills.
- Analytical problem‑solving: Advanced analytical skills applied to laboratory procedures and experimental results.
- Professional communication & IT: Excellent oral and written communication; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
