Responsibilities
The Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering at North Carolina State University invites applications for a full‑time postdoctoral research associate to work with Dr. Joe Sagues in the area of biocarbon energy storage. The position has an initial one‑year appointment with the potential for extension based on performance and funding availability. The successful candidate will conduct and publish peer‑reviewed research on sustainable energy storage materials, emphasizing the synthesis and application of biomass‑derived systems.
In addition to producing high‑quality publications, the candidate will contribute to leading research initiatives aimed at developing next‑generation energy storage technologies, with a central focus on the design and implementation of biocarbon electrodes and advancing the use of renewable resources in scalable, effective energy storage solutions while collaborating with faculty, research staff, and students to drive innovation in this emerging field.
- PhD in chemical engineering, biological engineering, agricultural engineering, environmental engineering, or a closely related field.
- Research experience focused on biocarbon material processing and demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Expertise in biocarbon material synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical analysis; ability to collaborate within a diverse, interdisciplinary team of engineers, biologists, and chemists from academia, industry, and national laboratories.
- Valid NC driver’s license.
Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with early mornings, evenings and weekends as research needs require.
