Overview

Temporary Research Summer Intern 2026 at Mills River, NC. In this role, you will assist faculty and staff to meet annual plant production goals across a variety of nursery crops. The internship exposes you to plant breeding and improvement, propagation, tissue culture, and plant production. You will participate in transplanting, maintenance of tissue culture projects, plot maintenance, flow cytometry, container production, and data collection, and will also join independent research projects, field trips, and conferences.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in transplanting and maintenance of tissue culture projects.
  • Maintain plots and conduct flow cytometry.
  • Produce containers and collect data for plant production.
  • Participate in independent research projects, field trips, and attend conferences.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; enrolling in a 4‑year undergraduate plant sciences program or recent graduate.
  • Strong interest and background in horticulture, plant materials, research, and plant breeding.
  • Valid driver's license (if required).
