The Burclaff Lab is interested in better understanding how metabolism and cellular energetics are regulated within intestinal stem cells and how dynamic regulation underlies the intestine’s ability to maintain itself at homeostasis and following injuries or disease. Our major focus is on the stem cell compartment, studying how the intestinal stem cells maintain their identity, undergo fate decisions, regulate cell cycle, and the dynamic plasticity that occurs within crypt populations following injury.
We use a mix of animal and human models, including cutting-edge genetically modified primary human intestinal stem cell cultures, to advance our understanding of the mammalian intestine.
