Postdoctoral Research Scholar

Overview

Postdoctoral Research Scholar position in the NC State College of Engineering, Civil, Construction, and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) department, Raleigh, NC. The role focuses on transportation research related to human-Autonomous Vehicle (AV) interactions.

• Design and implement research experiments in human-automation interaction.
• Conduct data analysis and contribute to paper writing.
• Supervise and advise graduate and undergraduate students.
• Assist in developing research proposals and be involved in professional community activities.

The research project will study how human users (drivers or AV users) interact with AVs to investigate problems such as: (1) how human drivers decide whether to cooperate with AVs (e.g., yield or not) and (2) how AV users decide whether to accept cooperation from algorithmic design. The goal is to identify influential factors in human-AV interactions, understand the decision-making process from cognitive and behavioral economics perspectives, and develop strategies to promote human-AV cooperation (e.g., via improved communication design or nudging).

A simulator network with multiple connected driving simulators will be utilized.

• PhD degree in transportation, economics, industrial engineering, psychology, or a related field.
• Excellent communication skills. Self-motivated with professional work ethics.
• Highly desirable experience in one or more of: behavioral economics, human factors, statistics, and experimental design.
• Experience in one or more of: multi-agent interaction, driving simulators, game theory, and human-computer interaction.
• Valid NC Driver's License not required; no Commercial Driver's License required.

Work schedule:

M-F, 8 AM-5 PM unless noted otherwise.
