Environmental Specialist I (S) – Temporary position (Grade NC12)
Location4100 Reedy Creek Road, Raleigh, Wake County, Department of Environmental Quality.
Employment DetailsHourly Rate: $25.00 (based on education and/or relevant experience). This is a temporary position with no leave or retirement benefits. Temporary staff working an average of 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for health insurance under the High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). There are two positions available. Effective July 1, 2025, candidates meet the minimum qualifications when they possess the required education or experience as specified.
Key Responsibilities- Organize the North Carolina Geological Survey Core Repository.
- Sort, inventory, and repackage at‑risk geologic cores collected from offshore and onshore North Carolina.
- Move cores and related collections onto new shelving in on‑site Conex units or designated areas.
- Follow guidance from senior staff on sorting methods, labeling, prioritization, and repackaging standards.
- Conduct quality assurance checks on completed work.
- Perform physically demanding tasks and maintain strong attention to detail.
Bachelor’s degree in agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental, or natural resource sciences, or a closely related curriculum from an accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. See the Education and Experience Equivalency Guide for details.
