The Precision Sustainable Agriculture program is a network of researchers from multiple organizations collaborating to develop integrated knowledge-intensive sustainable agriculture practices into a precision framework to maximize farm productivity, and sustainability through the use of an information ecology that connects farms, data, tools, and people for optimal, real-time decision making. The PSA program is housed within the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences.

Job Duties
We are seeking a Field Specialist to support innovative agricultural research by operating our Bench Bot, an automated imaging robot that collects phenotypic data on plant species, and managing the large-scale plant production systems that enable this work. This hands-on role combines field operations, plant establishment and care, technology, and research support in a dynamic outdoor environment.
The ideal candidate enjoys working outdoors, solving practical problems, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Success in this role requires attention to detail, the ability to follow established protocols, strong observational skills, and a commitment to keeping both plants and equipment operating at peak performance.

Qualifications Minimum Experience/EducationBachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
- Experience working in agriculture, horticulture, plant science, field research, greenhouse operations, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with large-scale container production, greenhouse growing, or horticultural crops
- Familiarity with fertigation, drip irrigation, or nutrient management systems
- Experience with agricultural field equipment or ag research environments
- Familiarity with Linux-based devices or tablet/app-based control interfaces
- Valid driver's license required.
- A valid NC Driver's License within 60 days of hire, must be maintained throughout employment.
- Anticipated Hiring Range:
Commensurate with experience ($54,172 - $60,191) - Position Classification Salary Range: $ 45,454 - $ 109,409
