Position: Intern, Geographic Information Systems (summer 2027)

Description

The Martin Marietta Summer GIS Internship provides students with meaningful, hands‑on experience applying Geographic Information Systems (GIS) within the aggregates mining industry. This approximately 10-week program offers the opportunity to apply classroom knowledge to real‑world projects while developing technical, analytical, problem‑solving, and operational skills. Working alongside experienced GIS professionals, geologists, engineers, and other mining professionals, GIS Interns gain exposure to geospatial data management, mapping, spatial analysis, data visualization, and other GIS applications that support Martin Marietta's operations.

Interns contribute to projects that help improve data accuracy, support resource evaluation, enhance operational decision-making, and provide valuable insights across the business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow and promote Martin Marietta's safety, environmental, and ethical standards in all work activities.
  • Assist with Enterprise GIS data development and content delivery projects.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Enterprise GIS datasets related to property boundaries, ownership, zoning, and land use.
  • Integrate property records from various sources (deeds, plats, tax records) into GIS datasets.
  • Collect, clean, and maintain geospatial datasets from various sources (e.g., satellite imagery, GPS, surveys).
  • Assist with the development and implementation of workflow automation for repeatable geoprocessing tasks.
  • Support the design and production of high-quality maps, applications, and visualizations for reports and presentations.
  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with the Company's Mission, Vision, Values, policies, procedures, and Code of Ethical Business Conduct.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in:
    Geographic Information Systems, Geographic Information Science, Geospatial Data Science or Analytics, or a closely related field with a GIS Minor/Certificate/Concentration
  • Coursework in GIS Fundamentals using ArcGIS Pro completed prior to the internship.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn technical processes and adapt to a fast‑paced work environment.
