Position Overview
The North Carolina State University Police Department is responsible for protecting and serving the campus community. The Master Police Officer I‑III positions involve patrolling campus, investigating complaints, enforcing laws, and implementing preventive measures.
Responsibilities- Patrol campus and investigate complaints and violations of state laws and local ordinances.
- Develop and implement preventive patrol techniques and perform specialized duties to deter crime and promote effective safety practices.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Maintain impeccable integrity and a proven record of consistency.
- Model courteous engagement and outstanding customer service with faculty, staff, students, and visitors while ensuring clear and firm adherence to safety principles and laws.
- High School diploma or GED with 6 years of experience as a sworn local, state, or federal law enforcement officer.
- Advanced degree (JD, Master’s, Doctorate) reduces the minimum experience requirement by one year.
- Current certification from NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer (or certification eligible within the specified timeframe).
- Good oral and written communication skills and professional interaction with the public and criminal justice system.
- Associate’s degree or higher education level.
- Experience in a higher‑education public safety or campus police department, especially in a CALEA or IACLEA accredited department.
- 80‑percent score on annual firearms qualification.
- Valid North Carolina Driver’s License required.
- Commercial Driver’s License not required.
- All professional certifications referenced are issued through the NC Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
Final candidates are subject to criminal and sex‑offender background checks. Some vacancies may require credit or motor‑vehicle checks. Candidates must obtain required degrees before the start date to meet qualifications and receive credit.
