Position Overview

Correctional Lieutenant III (S) located at Eastern Correctional Institution, Maury County, NC.

• Provide independent support to the Correctional Captain.
• Supervise subordinate staff, conduct shift line‑ups, assign shifts, and inspect personnel for physical and mental readiness.
• Complete, review, and maintain employee time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and other administrative forms.
• Conduct investigations as required.
• Account for persons and funds and ensure all assigned equipment is operational.
• Inspect daily offender living areas, medical, kitchen, and facility areas to identify safety hazards and maintain smooth operations.
• Identify training needs and coordinate delivery of training to staff.
• Conduct searches of staff, visitors, and offenders for contraband and respond to emergency situations.
• Serve as Officer‑in‑Charge when the Correctional Captain is absent.

• High School or GED diploma and 3 years as a Correctional Sergeant, or 2 years as a Correctional Sergeant III, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Eligibility for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
• Pass a criminal background check.
• Negative drug screening result.
• Successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Knowledge of facility operations.
• Knowledge of prison policy and procedures.
• Supervisory skills in a prison facility.
• Report writing skills.
