Correctional Sergeant III (S)
The NC Department of Adult Correction (Adult Correction Division) seeks a Correctional Sergeant III (S) to provide first‑line supervision and operational leadership at a multi‑custody female correctional facility. The position reports directly to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or the Correctional Housing Unit Manager.
Responsibilities- Provide supervision for subordinate staff, conduct shift line‑ups, assign shifts, and assess staff readiness.
- Complete, review, and maintain time reports, duty rosters, leave schedules, performance evaluations, and administrative forms.
- Account for people and funds to ensure all assigned equipment is operationally ready.
- Assign lower‑level custody staff to specific areas or posts, oversee officer activities, and ensure custody, security, and welfare of offenders are maintained.
- Arrange work schedules to ensure shift coverage, implement operational procedures, and enforce rules and regulations according to policy.
- High School or GED diploma and at least three years of experience as a Correctional Officer, OR two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III (or equivalent).
- Must meet Criminal Justice Standards requirements (12 NCAC 09G .0302).
- Pass a criminal background check, produce a negative drug screening result, and successfully complete medical and psychological evaluations.
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
- Preferred: documented knowledge of Prison Policies and Procedures and/or Facility Operations.
- Eligible for certification by the N.C. Criminal Justice Education and Training and Standards Commission.
Salary Range: $41,206.00 – $72,113.00.
