Police Officer (NCSU Police Department)
Overview:
The North Carolina State University Police Department is responsible for providing the most reasonable level of safety and security for the protection of life and property of students, faculty, staff and visitors of the campus community. The department functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year round with sworn officers, non-sworn full‑time employees and part‑time employees.
- Protect and serve students, faculty, staff and visitors through law enforcement and crime prevention.
- Patrol campus and investigate complaints and violations of state laws and local ordinances.
- Develop and implement preventative patrol techniques and perform specialized duties to deter crime and promote effective safety and security practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must possess a high school diploma or GED and a probationary certification from the NC CJETSC as a commissioned police officer, and successfully complete the appointing agency’s designated field training program.
- Must meet minimum state standards for employment, including orientation, field training, and probationary period, and satisfactorily complete the state‑mandated probationary period.
- Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to deal with the public and representatives of the criminal justice system in a professional manner.
- Valid NC driver’s license required.
- Associate’s degree or higher education level.
- Experience in higher education public safety or campus police department, or experience in a CALEA or IACLEA accredited department.
- 80 percent score on annual firearms qualification strongly preferred.
