Duties

  • Responsible for installing, assembling, fabricating, maintaining, and repairing piping systems that carry various substances such as steam, water, chemicals, or gases in industrial settings.
  • Strong understanding of piping systems, materials, and industrial standards.
  • Layout, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related equipment.
  • Use various tools and equipment, such as pipe cutters, threading machines, and welding tools to join pipes by means of welding, brazing, soldering, cementing, gluing, or threading.
  • Fabricate pipe spools and components as per project requirements using various welding and fitting techniques.
  • Diagnose and repair faults in piping systems, including leaks, blockages, or pressure issues.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, and specifications to plan the layout of piping systems, ensuring compliance with design specifications and regulatory standards.
  • Test piping systems for leaks using methods such as hydrostatic testing or air pressure tests.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and industry codes.
  • Lead and instruct mechanical piping helpers, mechanics, and fitters under supervision.
  • Work closely with other trades such as welders, plumbers, and electricians to coordinate work on projects.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, coordinators, and project managers regarding project status, material needs, and any issues encountered.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and following OSHA guidelines.
Qualifications
  • 3‑5+ years of experience in pipe fitting, preferably in an industrial environment.
  • Certification in welding or pipe fitting – not required but advantageous.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 safety certification or willingness to obtain one.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Strong mathematical skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Mechanical aptitude with an understanding of different piping systems and materials.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs and climb ladders without physical overexertion.
  • Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy pipes and work in various positions.
  • Must be capable of working in environments that might be noisy, dusty, or have temperature extremes.
Work Conditions
  • Work is primarily on‑site at industrial plants, factories, or construction sites.
  • Work week – the normal work week will be Monday through Thursday 7:00 am–5:30 pm.
  • Position may involve working in shifts, including nights and weekends, depending on project timelines and maintenance schedules.
  • Follow all rules, protocols and procedures as set forth by the Company.
  • Always maintain professionalism. Support all Company functions in a positive manner.
Compensation And Benefits
  • Hourly Rate:
    Varies depending on experience.
  • Insurance:
    Eligible for the Company Insurance Plan on the 1st day of the month after 60 days of continuous employment. Refer to the attached SE&M Constructors, Inc. Benefits Plan for complete details, costs for the insurance plan, benefits, and explanation.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: SE&M provides a retirement plan. Employees are encouraged to participate through payroll deductions upon eligibility per the plan documents, which requires waiting 12 months. SE&M will contribute to the plan depending on profitability as an additional benefit to employees; management decides the level of participation annually.
