Join our Fleet Services team as a Vehicle / Equipment Repair Technician and keep our fleet running strong!
We’re seeking a skilled Vehicle Equipment Repair Technician to diagnose, repair, and maintain a varied range of vehicles and equipment from small engines like chainsaws and mowers to heavy-duty units including trailers, backhoes, and utility vehicles.
This hands‑on role requires expertise in electrical systems, drive trains, brakes, suspension, hydraulics, and wiring diagnostics while upholding the highest standards in safety and service quality.
As part of our team, you’ll also collaborate with vendors, track service trends, and maintain accurate repair records to help ensure top‑tier fleet performance and reliability.
Key responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
- Perform diagnostics and repairs on small, light, medium, and heavy‑duty equipment, including weed‑eaters, chainsaws, mowers, utility vehicles, trailers, backhoes, and light‑duty vehicles.
- Diagnose lighting systems, complex wiring issues, engine performance, drivetrain function, brakes, suspension, hydraulic components, and noise‑related concerns.
- Ensure compliance with industry service guidelines by obtaining and following relevant procedures.
- Determine and resolve equipment issues using hand tools, scanners, specialized diagnostic equipment, manual inspections, visual examinations, and audible diagnostics.
- Maintain accurate service records in the fleet management system by documenting diagnostics, repairs, and updates.
- Monitor repair trends, part quality, delivery times, costs, and vendor performance to ensure effective and efficient service.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and customers to enhance fleet longevity and manage costs.
- Analyze repair patterns on specific makes and models to proactively plan, prepare, and prevent potential breakdowns.
- Ability to lift up to 30 pounds frequently and up to 60 pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Other Responsibilities
- The position serves in a mandatory role and employees must work during adverse weather conditions and may be required to work even if the University is closed to normal operations.
- Support team members as needed during peak workloads or cross‑functional assignments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of the Facilities Division.
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
