Electronics Technician

This requisition is part of a Pre-Award requirement intended to identify and engage qualified candidates for a position that may be awarded to M.C. Dean. We will conduct interviews and may issue contingent offers of employment based on qualifications and suitability. The Electronics Technician is responsible for routine and non-routine operations, maintenance, and repairs of security systems, fire alarm systems, PA systems, and sprinkler control systems in a large commercial complex with laboratories. They will report to the Service Manager (SM) or Lead with a potential for back shift rotation or duty hours and on-call status. This position is covered by the CBA for Industrial, Technical and Professional Employees Union, OPEIU Local 4873.

  • Perform routine and non-routine maintenance, testing, programming, and repair of the Intrusion Detection and other Security and PA systems such as CCTV, intercoms, interface with an ePACS Access Systems, and duress stations.
  • Proficient with meters and testing equipment appropriate for this work.
  • Able to read and understand complex schematics and controls systems drawings.
  • Conduct detailed inspections and thorough testing of fire alarm and suppression systems per NFPA requirements, identifying and resolving complex issues.
  • Utilize advanced troubleshooting techniques to diagnose and repair intricate problems in fire alarm systems, including VESDA systems and interconnected components such as elevators, HVAC shutdown, fire doors, and smoke control.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of service activities, including diagnostics, repairs, and system upgrades, completing testing reports in a timely manner.
  • Provide technical support to junior technicians, collaborating with team members to ensure high-quality service delivery.
  • Respond promptly to service calls, emergencies, and system failures, restoring system functionality while upholding safety protocols and company policies.
  • Assist in the installation, maintenance, and upgrade of various fire alarm systems, including Notifier, Siemens, Edwards, Gamewell, Honeywell, Firelite, etc.
  • Perform complete site surveys for potential preventive maintenance inspections and fire alarm system changes/modifications, preparing labor estimates and material requirements.
  • Stay updated on industry advancements, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and optimize system performance, while pursuing and maintaining industry certifications.
  • Knowledge and use of Electrical Safety Precautions and Arc Flash requirements.
  • Proper use of PPE
