Heavy Equipment Mechanic / Diesel Service Technician

A leading equipment dealership is seeking skilled Heavy Equipment, Diesel, Agricultural, and Turf Equipment Technicians to join its growing service team. This role is responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of construction, agricultural, compact utility, tractor, turf, and heavy equipment in both shop and field environments.

The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical aptitude, experience working with diesel-powered equipment, and the ability to diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, powertrain, and engine-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain construction, heavy equipment, agricultural machinery, tractors, compact equipment, turf equipment, and related components.
  • Develop repair plans and determine required parts, materials, tooling, and labor requirements.
  • Perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, engine, powertrain, and drivetrain repairs.
  • Conduct inspections, testing, and quality assurance checks to ensure proper equipment performance.
  • Complete work orders, service reports, warranty documentation, and technical reports accurately and on time.
  • Communicate repair status, findings, and recommendations with supervisors and customers as needed.
  • Order, retrieve, and return parts, materials, and specialty tools through company systems.
  • Safely operate and maintain service vehicles, shop equipment, diagnostic tools, and other company assets.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, service truck, and tool inventory.
  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing diesel-powered equipment, heavy equipment, agricultural equipment, tractors, compact equipment, turf equipment, or related machinery
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical diagnostic skills
  • Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred:

  • Associate Degree in Diesel Technology, Heavy Equipment Technology, Agricultural Equipment Technology, or a related field
  • Completion of a diesel or equipment technician apprenticeship program
  • Experience with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, electrical systems, and computerized diagnostics
  • Previous dealership, construction equipment, agricultural equipment, or heavy equipment service experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work in physically demanding environments
  • Ability to lift tools, parts, and equipment components as required
  • Frequent use of hands and arms to perform equipment diagnostics and repairs
  • Ability to work safely around heavy machinery and moving mechanical equipment

Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in both shop and field service environments
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, vibration, and industrial work settings
  • Ability to work safely in varying temperatures and job-site conditions
