The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible.

The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas.

In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur.

State Troopers are committed to protecting North Carolina's motoring public.

Work in this position involves responsibility for scheduling and short range planning of the maintenance and repair of a building or group of buildings around the State and within the VIPER- EAST network sites.

Employee may personally do skilled / semi-skilled maintenance work.

Management Prefers:

• General knowledge of the methods, practices, and materials used in the general maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and machinery.
• Familiarity with supply and inventory control practices.
• Ability to supervise the work of unskilled workers.
• Ability to direct the work of others.
• Ability to function independently.

• Short range planning of the maintenance and repair of a building or group of buildings around the State and within the VIPER network sites.
• Semi-skilled maintenance work.
• Employee determines work to be done through personal inspection; day to day work orders generated by the supervising Maintenance/Construction Supervisor II or other supervising technician with the VIPER Group.
• Employee sets priorities and schedules work depending on critical nature, availability of funds, and assigned tasks.
• Additional day-to-day work orders generated by VIPER staff and prepared and assigned to this position appropriately.
• Work may include other duties as assigned.

Typical work schedule:
Monday-Friday; 8:00am-5:00pm Some night and/ or weekend work required.

Note:

Qualified recommended applicant(s) external to NCSHP must undergo and successfully pass:

• Criminal Background Investigation
• Drug Screening Test

High school OR General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
