Salary And BenefitsSalary Range: $41,558-$54,078
NEW STEP PAY PLAN:
Youth Counselors may receive annual salary increases with a step pay plan. Initial salary is based on total months of related education and experience above the minimum requirements (Bachelor's degree and 24 months of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience). Salary advances with related experience and internal equity determined by the state.
Work Schedule:
Full-time; shift work required including weekends and holidays.
Benefits:
Full-time position with state benefits including paid vacation, paid sick leave, paid holidays, retirement, and health insurance.
- Monitor and supervise juveniles while housed, at school, and during daily activities.
- Safety and security duties including maintaining a secure environment and routinely monitoring juveniles.
- Complete daily records, document safety violations and security breaches, provide shift briefings, and communicate treatment plans to clients and treatment teams.
- Provide counseling and therapeutic interventions; serve as a member of a therapeutic treatment team; utilize counseling techniques in crisis interventions.
- Implement individual and group treatment plans to effect behavioral changes; administer and interpret various assessment tools to evaluate progress; review treatment strategies to achieve rehabilitation goals.
- Participate in development of individual treatment, educational, vocational, and community reintegration programs.
- Work may include physical and mechanical restraints as appropriate per training and policy.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and two years of experience working with the juvenile/family client population and/or related human services experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications- Selected applicants must complete the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training Certification Program (4 weeks) including classroom and physically demanding training.
- Pass a Criminal Background check, Drug screening, Psychological and Sexual Risk screenings, and a physical examination (vision and hearing).
- U.S. citizen; at least 20 years of age; valid driver’s license.
- Other position-specific requirements may apply.
Shift premium may apply for certain shifts and eligibility for referrals exists. The job may require PREA background checks where applicable.
