Position Overview
A Wellness Specialist is a resourceful, motivated and empathetic individual. In this role, you will be adaptive to the changing needs of campus, support peers through daily tasks and team‑building opportunities and grow the peer experience in community outreach and engagement.
Responsibilities- Educate: Stay up-to-date on knowledge of the programs and services offered by Thrive Well and Wellness and Recreation.
- Develop: Create and deliver educational presentations related to health and wellness.
- Plan: Outline, implement and promote campus‑wide events that foster mental and physical well‑being on campus.
- Collaborate: Work alongside Wellness and Recreation student staff and campus partners to develop and market educational materials, programs and outreach special events on topics relevant to college students.
- Risk Management: Knowledge and implementation of emergency action plan.
- Training and Meetings: Attend required training and monthly staff meetings.
- Community: Develop professional relationships with co‑workers, participants and guests.
- Support: Perform other related duties to support the overall functioning of the department.
- Eligible if a current full‑time NC State student enrolled in at least 12 undergraduate or 9 graduate credit hours.
- Work schedule:
up to 20 hours per week, as scheduled.
- Environment: Indoors and outdoors with potential exposure to weather conditions.
- Physical: Frequent standing, sitting, walking, bending and reaching.
- Sensory: Potentially loud and busy work environment requiring strong communication and observation skills.
- Schedule: Flexibility needed; may work early mornings, late nights, weekends and breaks.
- Initiative: Complete required work, pursue opportunities to expand knowledge, work to better the department.
- Communication: Display effective and proactive interpersonal communication with users and coworkers.
- Customer Service: Prioritize users, ensuring a positive and supportive experience for all participants.
- Critical Thinking: Actively conceptualize, apply, analyze and evaluate information to reach a conclusion.
- Teamwork: Collaborate and use knowledge and experiences to contribute to the success of the team.
- Values Reasoning: Use the four values of care, positivity, flexibility and support when making decisions.
- Professionalism: Present expected behavior in the workplace, exemplified by attitude and effort.
