What You'll Be DoingCapital Area Workforce Development is a public-private partnership that focuses on economic development by ensuring the local workforce has the skills, training, and education to meet the needs of local employers. The board oversees workforce solutions in Chatham, Johnston, Lee, Orange, and Wake counties designed to serve businesses and individuals of all ages. We believe in economic development through workforce excellence.
The award winning CAWD Reentry Team provides support services and employment assistance to help prepare men and women returning from incarceration for successful employment and self-sufficiency. CAWD is the local provider for the federal Partnerships for Reentry Opportunities in Workforce Development (PROWD) grant initiative. Through this initiative, CAWD will provide case management, job training, employment assistance, and supportive services for individuals being released from the Butner Federal Prison.
This is a time-limited position through October 2028 with the possibility of extension.

- Three years experience providing effective intervention strategies and case management within reentry or the judicial system.
- One year experience working in reentry services.
- Proficient bilingual English/Spanish communicator.
- Demonstrated skill in reentry best practices and knowledge of the criminal justice and court systems, including related organizations, procedures, and terminology.
- Familiarity with trauma-informed care, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based case management models.
- Awareness of the legal, social, economic, and emotional barriers faced by justice-involved individuals.
- Proven capacity to support individuals in complex situations and guide them toward resolution.
- Competence in deescalating high-intensity situations and managing conflict effectively.
- Talent for establishing trust and maintaining professional boundaries with justice-involved individuals.
- Proficiency in applying core case management functions, including assessment, planning, service implementation, follow-up, documentation, and monitoring.
- Strength in building and sustaining relationships with clients and service providers through active listening and responsive engagement.
- Exceptional organizational skills with a focus on efficient time management.
- Capacity to handle diverse responsibilities accurately, thoroughly, and within required time frames.
- Competence in using office equipment and technology—including software systems such as Microsoft Office and electronic document management tools—to meet business needs.
