Position Overview

Assistant Extension Agent, Agriculture (Assistant, Associate, or Full Agent) – a 12‑month recurring, full‑time permanent position located in Whiteville, NC. The role may be filled at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Agent level depending on qualifications.

Serves as a Livestock Extension Agent for Columbus County, responsible for developing, implementing, evaluating, and marketing educational programs and informational assistance for livestock production and management. Core duties include:

• Planning, implementing, evaluating, and marketing educational programs and activities with measurable impacts in livestock production/management and forage/pasture management.
• Collaborating with the 4‑H Agent to develop and implement a youth livestock program.
• Providing leadership and outreach to county youth and adult populations regarding livestock, livestock production phases, animal health, and pasture management.
• Maintaining strong relationships with livestock producers, youth, farm families, and related organizations and businesses through innovative educational strategies.
• Frequent traveling within the county and occasional travel outside the county to conduct outreach and outreach events.

Develop innovative strategies for presenting educational programs to livestock producers, youth and farm families, and related organizations and businesses.

• Bachelor’s degree in a related agricultural field with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 overall or 3.0 in an agricultural or related field (or a 3.0 GPA waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor’s degree).
• Alternatively, a Master’s degree with at least one of the courses in an agricultural or related field, or completion of at least half of a Master’s degree curriculum with a 3.0 GPA or higher.
• Valid North Carolina driver’s license required.
• Strong background in livestock production, forage/pasture management, and 4‑H livestock programming.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, public relations/marketing expertise, leadership, time management, organization, technology, networking, and resource‑development skills.
• Physical ability to perform job duties; no special physical requirements noted.
