What You'll Be Doing
As a Food and Nutrition Services Eligibility Caseworker I, you’ll be a vital part of this mission—supporting families, reducing food insecurity, and strengthening our community. In this role, you will guide residents through the FNS eligibility process, ensuring they receive timely and accurate support. You’ll connect individuals to essential resources, provide compassionate service, and help maintain the integrity of this critical program.
EssentialFunctions
- Interview applicants (by phone or in person) to assess eligibility
- Evaluate information and determine initial or ongoing benefits
- Request and verify documentation according to program policies
- Enter accurate data into NC FAST and related systems
- Provide referrals to community partners and additional services
- Maintain timely, clear documentation and manage caseloads using On Base
- Support teammates by providing backup coverage and completing required reports
- Meet established performance standards for quality and productivity

Education and Experience )
- High school degree or GED
- Two years of related experience
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted
Education and Experience )
- Experience determining eligibility for a State or County Department of Social Services program (Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, Child Care Subsidy, Child Support, WIC or Energy Assistance Program)
- Experience in a Human Services Technician role supporting any Human Services program in a county or state Department of Human Services or Social Services agency
- Experience determining eligibility for a Financial or Insurance Provider for financial assistance or insurance claims
- Experience assessing the financial capabilities and need for financial assistance Financial Counseling)
- Direct clerical or customer services experience providing support to a Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, or Child Care Subsidy Program within a State or County Department of Social Services
- Experience working with the homeless population
- Spanish language skills
- Adaptability, accountability, and strong integrity
- Ability to apply detailed policy and calculate budgets accurately
- Excellent attention to detail
- Calm under pressure and able to manage stressful situations
- Strong communication skills—written and verbal
- Customer service minded and respectful of client diversity
- Comfortable with NC FAST, Hyland OnBase, Microsoft Office, and related tools
