Sr. Java Developer

Piper Companies is seeking a Mid‑Level Java Developer to join a cryptographic services engineering team responsible for secure backend development and core PKI functionality supporting enterprise‑scale applications. The Mid‑Level Java Developer will build new features for a high‑volume Licensing Crypto Service while collaborating closely with engineers, SREs, and architects across multiple domains. This hybrid position requires 2 days onsite per week in RTP, NC (preferred) or Fulton, MD.

This position is only available for candidates who are authorized to work in the United States. This position may require in‑person interviews.

• Develop and enhance backend features for the Licensing Crypto Service using Java and Spring Boot
• Collaborate with engineers, SREs, and architects across distributed teams and time zones
• Participate in code reviews and work with client teams to refine feature requirements
• Support secure, scalable, high‑volume backend systems running on Linux and Tomcat
• Contribute to Dev Ops processes using Git, Git Lab, Ansible, and related CI/CD tools
• Maintain reliable communication and strong working relationships with junior and senior team members
• Participate in an after‑hours, on‑call rotation as needed
• Support cryptographic functionality and PKI‑related application components

• 5–8 years of backend software development experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field
• Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, and RESTful services
• Linux proficiency, including supporting applications running on Tomcat
• Hands‑on experience with Dev Ops tools such as Git, Git Lab, and Ansible
• Experience working with Oracle or other relational databases; ORM experience required
• Ability to work effectively in a high‑volume environment (billions of transactions per quarter)
• Strong communication, documentation, and cross‑team collaboration skills
• Must be authorized to work in the United States

• $128,000–$130,000 annually
