Software Development Engineer, Developer

Role Overview

Senior Software Development Engineer (SDE) responsible for designing, building, and operating highly available, fault‑tolerant distributed systems that enable developers to build and operate high‑quality software on the Amazon networking OS.

• Solve complex and ambiguous problems with high quality and efficiency.
• Shape the definition, vision, design, roadmap, development, and operationalization of customer‑facing services.
• Own direction based on data‑driven decisions and set outcomes.
• Collaborate across teams and AWS business units, influencing safety, security, and cost‑efficiency.
• Build highly available, fault‑tolerant distributed systems using Rust, Go, Python, and other technologies.
• Serve as a hands‑on technical lead: gather requirements, generate technical designs, and carry the project through the full software lifecycle.
• Mentor and train other engineers, providing guidance and support for the technologies.
• Influence the design and development of tools that improve developer experience and testing frameworks.
• Work with customers (internal developers) to gather input and ensure consistency and intuitiveness of services.
• Participate in hiring and shaping the team to exceed expectations.

• 3+ years of professional software development experience (non‑internship).
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience for new and existing systems, focusing on design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
