Overview
Senior Web Engineer – front‑end focused. Responsible for designing, building and maintaining secure, high‑performing web applications that support customers, internal teams and the long‑term digital strategy of First Carolina Bank within a regulated financial services environment.
Key Responsibilities- Design, build and maintain secure, high‑performing web applications.
- Lead development of React‑based front‑ends with server‑side rendering using Express.
- Deliver complex frontend features aligned with business and product requirements.
- Collaborate with Product, UX, Compliance, Infrastructure, QA and other teams.
- Ensure platforms meet accessibility (WCAG 2.2), privacy and security standards.
- Review code, provide guidance, promote clean, maintainable solutions.
- Build and maintain reusable UI components and structured design systems.
- Support automated testing, deployment workflows and documentation.
- Monitor production systems, respond to issues, ensure stability.
- Mentor junior developers and contribute to engineering culture.
- 5+ years of professional experience in modern web development.
- Deep hands‑on experience building complex React applications, including hooks, state management, component architecture, performance, SSR.
- Strong experience with CSS‑in‑JS solutions (Emotion or Styled Components) and theming.
- Experience with Express.js (nice‑to‑have, focus on front‑end architecture).
- Strong understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.2, ARIA).
- Experience with testing tools such as Jest or React Testing Library.
- Proficiency with Git workflows and collaborative development practices.
- Strong written and verbal communication in remote, async teams.
- Experience with Vite or Webpack customization.
- Contribution to internal component libraries or design systems.
- Exposure to Docker, Azure or other cloud services.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements (AML, BSA, USA PATRIOT Act).
- Experience implementing unit, integration, snapshot testing.
