About the Team
Our Web Tools team is a globally distributed team responsible for building and maintaining the software and infrastructure that powers Epic's web-based services. This includes everything from the backend APIs that power our websites and launchers to the internal tools and services that our developers use every day. We're looking for an experienced and passionate Senior Staff Backend Engineer to join our team and help us build the next generation of web tools at Epic.
WhatYou'll Do
- Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable and reliable backend services for Epic's web-based products and internal tools.
- Lead the technical design and implementation of complex projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional growth.
- Drive best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing, and deployment processes.
- Identify and resolve performance and scalability issues in existing systems.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies and tools to improve our development processes and product offerings.
- Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the availability and performance of our services.
- 10+ years of experience in backend software development.
- Strong proficiency in one or more backend languages such as C++,
Go
, Rust
, or Python
. - Extensive experience designing and building scalable, fault-tolerant, and high-performance distributed systems.
- Deep understanding of cloud platforms (
AWS
, GCP
, or Azure
) and containerization technologies (
Docker
, Kubernetes
). - Experience with various database technologies (
SQL and No
SQL
). - Proven ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor other engineers.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with game development or gaming platforms.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies and frameworks.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
- Contributions to open-source projects.
