Red Hat Engineering is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our Open Shift team, building the premier Kubernetes platform.
Responsibilities- Lead the design and development of software solutions for features that span multiple subsystems.
- Advocate for customer needs, aligning products with community direction, and act as a key representative within the Kubernetes community.
- Co‑coach and mentor senior engineers across teams.
- Own and deliver technical initiatives with visible business impact, enabling the team to add value for end users.
- Evaluate and introduce AI‑driven methodologies to resolve complex issues and improve engineering efficiency.
- Define and implement the SDLC for complex, multi‑component systems, ensuring scalability and alignment across collaborating teams.
- May encounter confidential or sensitive customer information; treat with appropriate care.
- Extensive open source experience and active participation in community‑driven development.
- 7+ years of software development in a Linux environment with languages such as Go, Ruby, Python, Java, C, or C++.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
- Deep experience designing, building, and debugging distributed systems.
- Thorough understanding of container concepts and runtimes.
- Familiarity with Kubernetes as both a user and a developer.
- Experience with Agentic AI based SDLC and advanced AI‑based tools.
- Familiarity with modern tool chains and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proficiency with Git, especially Git Hub workflows.
- Excellent interpersonal and cross‑team collaboration skills for distributed environments.

Understanding Kubernetes architecture and internals. - Plus:
Experience with development for public cloud services (AWS, GCE, Azure). - Plus:
Previous contributions to open source projects or maintainer role.
